You can find most recent info about Kaplaaki’s events from our social media accounts! Here are some examples of typical events we arrange.
Kaplaaki’s annual sits calendar includes, for example, freshman sits for first-year students and other sits for senior scholars. Sits are also often celebrated during visits by sister guilds and throughout the year, listening to members’ wishes. Sits is a significant part of the student culture in Lappeenranta. You can discover the sits culture and view photos from previous years sits parties in Kaplaaki’s photo gallery here!
Kaplaaki’s biggest event of the year is the Annual Ball, which is usually held around the middle of the spring term. Of course, there is no lack of glamor at these parties, and the evening dress party is the highlight of many students’ year. At the party, we celebrate our guild’s precious history and enjoy the finest traditions of the festival. The spectacle also features a traditional brunch on the following day of the party.
In 2014, Kaplaaki celebrated its 40th anniversary. Visit our photo gallery for pictures of these awesome celebrations!
Our guild’s harassment contact persons act as supporting individuals to whom you can turn to at a low threshold if you feel that you have encountered harassment from another student or any member of our community. Harassment contact persons support and advise students in these situations and if necessary direct them towards supporting services.
What is harassment? It’s any kind of mental or physical bullying, threats, any discrimination, inappropriate treatment and comments, inequality, defamation or any other activity which the target finds offensive or unpleasant. Also any behaviour continued after the target expresses that they find it inappropriate is also considered harassment. It is good to remember that something that seems normal to you may seem disturbing to someone else.
It is also important to remember that as a member of Kaplaaki, you commit to upholding our declaration of equality. Let’s make sure together that everyone feels comfortable and welcome in our community.
The harassment contact person does not take any action without the consent of the person asking for help and all conversations and contacts are confidential.
We follow the LTKY harassment contact person process:
1. After contacting the harassment contact persons a meeting with the notifier will be arranged if the notifier wishes so. You can also contact harassment contact persons without wanting to discuss the situation, for example if you just want to report a harassment situation you have witnessed.
2. If the discussion feels sufficient the process ends. If there is need for additional actions, the harassment contact person will invite both parties to a conversation and if needed, guides them forward. A follow-up can be arranged and after this the process ends.
You can contact the harassment contact person if you feel that you have been harassed or if you have witnessed a harassment situation within our community.
