ADVOCACY
When something about a course, teaching or your position as a student needs fixing, the feedback has to get from the coffee table to the people who can actually do something about it. Kaplaaki gathers the voice of industrial engineering and management students and takes it forward. On this page you will also find what to do when you need help yourself.
On Kaplaaki's board, advocacy is the responsibility of the Educational Affairs Officer (KOPO). KOPO and the chair sit on the committees and working groups where teaching is decided, and keep in touch with the industrial engineering department, the other guilds and the student union LTKY.
Guilds are an official part of how course feedback is handled. We make sure the feedback you give is actually dealt with in the degree programme, and student representatives take part in the yearly feedback workshops where course changes are agreed. That is why giving course feedback is always worth it: the more people answer, the stronger the message.
You can raise any issue related to your studies by writing to KOPO at opinto@kaplaaki.fi. To stay anonymous, use the study feedback form or leave a note in the feedback box in the guild room.

Most things get sorted fastest when you first contact the person directly involved. You can reach KOPO at any stage.

Good to know as a student
Appealing a grade
You have the right to see your graded work and to hear how the grading criteria were applied. If you are not happy with the teacher's decision on your request, you can take the matter to the Examination Board. For a master's thesis, the request goes straight to the board. The board only handles final course grades.

If an illness, disability or learning difficulty makes studying harder, you can apply for things like extra time in exams. Apply well in advance, as arrangements must be agreed before the exam.
Arrangements and how to applyUsing AI and academic dishonesty
Teachers decide on the use of AI course by course and assignment by assignment, so read the instructions every time. Using AI against the instructions, or hiding that you used it, can count as cheating. If you are unsure, ask before you submit.

Your right to study is time-limited. If graduation is delayed, you apply for an extension in Sisu. Talk to your study counsellor in good time.
Applying for an extensionScholarships and grants
You will hear about most scholarships by email to your LUT address. The form in the message must be filled in by the deadline or you will miss out, so check your spam folder now and then too. Up-to-date details and amounts are always in eLUT.
Bachelor's thesis for a company (VITAKO)€300
This scholarship is now only awarded to bachelor's graduates in business and in industrial engineering and management. You do not need to apply: your supervisor notes the company on the assessment form and a study secretary asks for your bank details. You must still be a LUT student when the nomination is made.
Graduating in the target time€300–800
Target time scholarship. Graduating with a bachelor's degree in three years earns €400, and with a master's degree in five years €300.
Plus an excellence scholarship. If you graduate in the target time with a grade average of at least 4.00 and a thesis grade of 5, you get an extra €500 for a bachelor's degree or €800 for a master's degree on top of the target time scholarship.
The message arrives the month after you graduate, and you only have a week to reply.
Scholarships in eLUTExchange grant€1,500 or €490–540/month
Students going outside Europe get a one-off sum, while Erasmus destinations come with a monthly grant and travel support. Travel support is higher if you travel without flying. You need to complete at least 20 credits per semester during the exchange.

The LUT Career Spark subsidy is paid to your employer when you work in a country other than your own. Mention it already when applying for the job, and apply for the subsidy at least two weeks before you start.

Course book
Kurssikirja kertoo tuotantotalouden kursseista sen, mitä kiltahuoneella kysyttäisiin: miten kurssi toteutetaan, pitääkö paikalla olla, miten arvosana muodostuu ja kuinka työläs kurssi on. Tiedot perustuvat opiskelijoiden kokemuksiin, ja kurssit muuttuvat vuosittain, joten tarkista viralliset tiedot aina opinto-oppaasta. Voit itse auttaa pitämään kirjan ajan tasalla arvioimalla käymiäsi kursseja.
Työmäärä ja mielenkiinto asteikolla 1–5. Opiskelijoiden keskiarvo näkyy, kun kurssilla on vähintään kolme arviota.
